The fastest way to change yourself is to hang out with people who are already who you want to be like.

Today we have Christopher Kai speaking on the importance of Networking for success in your professional career. He is an entrepreneur and international speaker. He has given thousands of presentations in over 30 countries.
He’s been featured on Forbes, ABC News, Buzz Feed, and Fast Company. Inc. Magazine has referred to him as the “billionaire networker.”
He will discuss a new paradigm to help you understand how networking and speaking can help to grow your business.
In this Interview Learn:
- Why your Network is the #1 predictor of Career Success
- How Speaking can Grow your Business
- Open networks Vs Closed networks
- Why changing your relationships is the best way to change your life
I didn’t grow up with money. My mother was a school teacher and my father was a social worker. But I figured out how to “hack” networking and how to “hack” personal development. I learned to become successful through personal growth and networking. So I want to give that to people with a book that costs $10 on amazon.
My book came out about 2 years ago. It’s called, Big Game Hunting: Networking with Billionaires and Executives. It was a bestseller on amazon last year. But I’ve been a business consultant for the last 17 years.
I help C-level executives with business development, planning, and strategy. But after this book came out, it blew up and now it’s global. Just this past month, I’ve been in 8 cities and 3 different countries speaking on these concepts.
Primarily I help entrepreneurs understand the art and science of developing successful business relationships. I also have an online coaching program where I teach professionals how to be a global speaker to gain clients for their business.
Why is networking important for business or professional success?
There have numerous studies done on this topic. According to the top network scientist, Ron Burt, your network is the Number 1 predictor of career success.
With Networking, there are closed networks and open networks. Closed networks are when lawyers only hang out with lawyers, accountants only hang out with other accountants, etc. It’s when you only associate with those similar to yourself.
But those that are most successful usually have open networks. They branch out and meet people in different professions and backgrounds. An accountant might mingle with lawyers, dentists, entrepreneurs, etc.
The broader the reach and variety of a network you have with those that don’t look like you the better. Differences in occupations, age, gender, etc. They can help open up your world view and give you potential for greater business or professional opportunities.
Basically, if you want to have more opportunities, than change your relationships. My clients are business entrepreneurs. If they want more sales and clients, they have to network better and find the right rooms to work.
With speaking, I call this Next Level Networking. Because when you’re actually speaking, those clients and business opportunities come to you. They literally walk right up to you. The most economical and efficient way to network, is to become a speaker. And this is what I teach and coach to my clients, how to be a world class speaker.
It’s one of the best ways to scale up your business. You can begin to gain the high profile clients you want instead of attracting customers who treat you like a commodity.
Are you talking about giving seminars and lectures?
You can be a key note speaker at a conference and be getting paid.
Or if you’re going to a conference already, why not position yourself to be one of the speakers. If it’s a free conference, there is a good chance that you can speak.
You’ll be elevated and on stage. If you’re going there to network anyways, why wouldn’t you want to be a speaker? There will be lines of people wanting to meet and talk to you.
“It’s very powerful. You’re like a Rock Star when you get on stage.”
If you’re in a specific niche within your industry, with a specific skill set, why wouldn’t you want to position yourself in front of thousands of people and become an authority figure?
This is far more effective than going to the seminar and getting lost in the crowd, which is what most people do.
It’s a very different way of thinking, but it really does work.
That’s why I call it, Next Level Networking. It can help you gain lots of potential clients and leads.
It’s one of the most powerful and systematically useful way to elevate your prestige, status, and business. It can help you get whatever it is that you want, whether it’s clients, referrals, sales, business partners, investors, clout, prestige, branding, etc.
Literally, it’s a panacea.
But ultimately, knowing about it is not enough. You have to actually do it and start speaking.
Invest in programs and start training to see results.
I’m always excited to see what my clients are accomplishing with my GPS program.
Aside from speaking, you say the best way to change your life is to change your relationships. Can you explain?
It goes back to the closed network and open network. You have to open your network to gain greater opportunities.
For example, early in my career, I was working with American Express as an Operations Analyst. But I was able to jump several rungs of the corporate ladder, saving me years of work.
Instead of having to become a senior analyst and then an assistant manager, I jumped straight to the manager position. I was able to do this because at the time, I reached out to my seniors, like those that were in VP and director positions.
Then when I wanted to write a book, I reached out to different publishers and authors. When I wanted to become a speaker, I reach out to professional speakers. Now with my online training program, I reached out to people online like Tai Lopez who makes $20 million just off of one of his online programs.
So whoever wants to succeed in any endeavor, the opportunity for success is out there. I highly encourage people not to make excuses because most of us do.
People tell me that they don’t have time, or don’t know what to do.
Look, if you want to be a millionaire in your profession. You have to find others that are doing what you want to do, but on a higher level. Understand what they are doing. Study them, figure out what makes them tick. After you figure out what they’re doing, you can do the same.
It’s not rocket science.
But you have to know your Why.
Why do you want to make a change?
Do you want to work for what you really want, what you’re passionate about?
Or are you only working to keep up with the demands of others?
Know your WHY and you can begin to make a change with clarity and purpose.
But you have to be determined and focused to succeed.
Don’t think that you already know everything.
The people that are successful read lots of books, invest in programs, and are into self growth.
The people that are not successful, don’t put in the time to do the work. They just whine and complain about their situation without doing anything.
